(1)表層混合層とは海面から温度があまり変化しない層のことを言います。 夏は、日射などで海水が温められ温度が上がります。 しかし温度が上がるのは表面だけなので、深さ方向に温度差が大きくなります。 結果として、温度が変化しない深さ(表層混合層)は小さくなります。 冬はこの逆の理由で厚くなります。 (2)私はこれを知りませんでしたが、同じような理由ではないでしょうか。 主水温躍層は温度変化が大きい層のことなので、高緯度地域の海水表面の温度が下がり、深層と温度差がなくなったために主水温躍層が見られなくなった、ということだと思います。
