はい、becauseはあくまでも接続詞で例外的にofという前置詞句を後ろに置けます。もともとの成り立ちは「by cause that s v ~」だったのですが、接続詞のthatを省略し「by cause」が「by cause →because」となったのです。ですから元々の「cause that」の部分の同格のthat節を句にして同格のofを用いているわけです。例えば、I'm sure that he'll succeed.という文がI'm sure of his success.になるのと同じ理屈です。
